Immigration Online - Reducing the effort for New Zealand Businesses
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) understands that businesses are the backbone to the New Zealand economy and that time spent on admin is time away from what they do best - doing business.
This is why INZ has made it easier for businesses to interact with them on by enabling more visa applications to be done online.
In June 2015, Apply on Behalf functionality was released, meaning employers can now submit applications online for people working for them and people who they have offered jobs to.
Roman Lee-Lo is a Human Resources Co-ordinator for the Hilton Queenstown Resort and Spa and DoubleTree by Hilton Queenstown is one of the many employers who are embracing the service to add benefit to their business."
Through the 'Apply on Behalf' service employers can lodge applications on behalf of their staff - by law, employers cannot provide immigration advice unless they become a licensed immigration adviser. It is anticipated that applicants can share in this process by completing sections of online forms relevant to them.
"Working in the hospitality business means we are subject to seasonal peaks, especially here, in Queenstown. Making it easier for us to get the staff we need more quickly is essential in helping us to grow our business." Says Roman.
Another benefit of the online system is that people applying for a Work Visa from within New Zealand, do not need to send in their passports if they are from a visa-waiver country (these are countries whose citizens do not need a visa to travel to New Zealand).
As for using the online system, Roman says, "The system itself is really intuitive and will let you know if you've made a mistake with inserting a wrong date-it lessens the need for back and forth interaction with INZ as you can be more certain of submitting a robust case. Once the application has been submitted it's easy, there's no need for me to have to visit a branch."
"I think any service that puts more time back into the hands of business is a great thing. Overall, it's a great tool and ensures that as a business that you're keeping your finger on the pulse. I'd wholly recommend others to get on board."
Later in 2015, eVisas (passport-free applications and label-less visas) are expected to become available for Work visa applicants from visa-waiver countries who are applying from outside New Zealand.
