31 The management profile16 section of the survey collects data on gender and ethnicity for the top three levels of management. As at 30 June 2000, there were 1162 positions in the Public Service in the top three levels of management. Women filled 33% of these senior management positions and 24% (9) of chief executive positions. Although women also hold almost half (44%) of the senior management positions in the nine departments headed by women, these positions represent only 20% of total senior management positions in the public service.
32 Maori made up 8.7% of those for whom ethnicity was known in this senior management group, compared to 16.9% of the Public Service as a whole. For Pacific Peoples the proportions were 1.4% of the senior managers against 6.6% of the Public Service.
