The Government has confirmed its intention to establish the new Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment by bringing together all the existing functions of the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Science and Innovation, Department of Labour and Department of Building and Housing.  The four agencies will come together on 1 July under a single Chief Executive.

The due diligence process showed that the functions of the four agencies come together effectively and have significant synergies.  Integrating these agencies into a single, dedicated business facing agency, providing joined up policy advice, regulation and services, will help shape and deliver the business growth agenda and build a more competitive and internationally focused economy.

The process also confirmed the level of savings that could be realised in the medium term, while ensuring that the new Ministry will be able to invest in building its capability.
