Between 2018 and 2019 the Public Service workforce (FTEs) increased by 2,898 or 5.8%. Amongst the occupation groups, ‘Information Professionals’ had the largest increase (up 714 or 12.4%), followed by ‘Clerical and Administrative Workers’ (up 499 or 11.9%). The Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment was the largest contributor to the increase in both occupational groups. The drivers for this were Immigration NZ replacing several offshore visa processing offices with New Zealand-based staff, as well as increasing staff to respond to increases in the volume of visa processing.
