The State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced that Nigel Bickle had agreed to act as Chief Executive and Secretary of Labour at the Department of Labour.
Mr Bickle is currently Deputy Chief Executive, Immigration, at the Department of Labour, a position he took up in February 2010.
Mr Bickle joined the public service in 1990 and has been in senior leadership positions for the last 14 years. Prior to joining the Department of Labour, he spent nine years at the Department of Building and Housing as Deputy Chief Executive, having started his public service career at the then Department of Social Welfare.
Christopher Blake, the current chief executive, is leaving the Department on December 23 to take up the position of Chief Executive at the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at the beginning of next year.
