State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes has today congratulated the winners and finalists in the 2016 Women of Influence Awards.

"This is a fantastic event recognising women leaders in a wide range of fields and celebrating their achievements," Mr Hughes said.

"Congratulations to all the winners and finalists," Mr Hughes said.

"All the leaders in these awards are very deserving and it's great to see them being recognised," he said.

Mr Hughes has congratulated the supreme winner, Helen Robinson, who received her award from Minister of State Services, Hon Paula Bennett.

Mr Hughes has also given his congratulations to the winners and finalists from the State services.

Naomi Ferguson, Commissioner of Inland Revenue is the 2016 winner in the Public Policy Category.

"Ms Ferguson has one of the biggest jobs in the Public Service and has made a real impact, both in her role leading Inland Revenue and in her work to champion and support woman leaders across the State services," Mr Hughes said. 

Auditor-General Lyn Provost won the Global category.

"Ms Provost has been a very effective Auditor-General for New Zealand, and has been instrumental in improving the standard of auditing and government accounting in developing nations, especially in the Pacific," said Mr Hughes.

State servants are also among the finalists in three of the ten award categories this year. In the Public Policy category: Dr Jo Cribb, former Chief Executive, Ministry for Women;  Cath Atkins, Treasury Deputy Secretary; and Police Superintendent Tusha Penny, National Manager Prevention.  In the Young Leader category: Andrea Brewster, DMPC communications advisor.

"Increasing the diversity of the Public Service, especially in leadership roles is a priority for me," Mr Hughes said.

"The Women of Influence Awards are a great way to recognise and celebrate the contribution women leaders are making in so many different fields, and show the next generation of leaders what they can achieve," Mr Hughes said.
