The State Services Commission is pleased to announce Elizabeth Innes as the winner of the Ria McBride Public Service Management Award for 2010. Liz has consistently demonstrated resilience in overcoming personal and professional barriers to career development. Her career is a mixture of private and public sector roles, including the male-dominated telecommunications and energy sectors, and in the male-dominated area of procurement.
Liz is currently a Procurement Manager at Inland Revenue. She is a high performing manager, with excellent leadership, management and technical skills. She has been identified as a leader with high potential, and her development is supported by the chief executive of Inland Revenue. In addition to her work, Liz has been actively involved in community roles, including cathedral choirs and IHC.
Liz intends to use this award to undertake the Master of Public Management through the School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington. The MPM will increase her understanding of public sector governance, strategy and management; help her build networks and share ideas with peers; and give her a 'toolbox' of models and practices to use throughout her career.
Her motivation and drive to make a positive difference are an inspiration to other women seeking career progression. The SSC wishes Liz well for her studies and for her future in the State Services.
