Last night 24 New Zealanders received Te Tohu Ratonga Tūmatanui o Aotearoa | The New Zealand Public Service Medal for meritorious public service.
The Governor-General of New Zealand, Her Excellency, The Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, GNZM, QSO, hosted the awards at Government House.
The New Zealand Public Service Medal is awarded to public servants who demonstrate exceptional commitment, are an exemplary model for others, and bring significant benefit to New Zealand or the Public Service. The medal was established by Royal Warrant in 2018 and is part of the New Zealand Royal Honours system.
The medals are awarded each year on, or as near as possible to, Public Service Day, November 7. This is the full list of medal recipients for 2023.
Public Service Commissioner Peter Hughes said public servants work hard for New Zealanders and come to work every day wanting to do the best job they can for their communities.
“Many public servants have tough jobs that they do without expecting any thanks,” said Mr Hughes.
“Public Service Day is the one day of the year we recognise the outstanding work of public servants, who serve with a spirit of service and a genuine desire to make New Zealand a better place for future generations to come.”
